Hijacking leads to fiery crash, claims 13 including retired Hero.

A sad turn of events has struck the heartland and left several families in turmoil.  Around 2 pm Thursday Paragon Airlines flight number 134 was hijacked by a group of unknown assailants.  Half an hour later the plane mysteriously crashed into the nearby lake killing 13 and leaving two hundred.

Included in those who perished was the hero once known as Clairvoyant Silk, a powerful psychic hero who protected the streets of Paragon for several years.  It is believed that she tried to stop the Hijackers and in the struggle caused the plane to crash.  Also lost in the crash was her youngest daughter, Susan Veil.

Clairvoyant Silk, or Peg Veil as she was known in the civilian sector, is survived by her husband Victor and their son Robert.  Both sustained minor injuries during the crash and were released after a few hours.

Also lost in the crash was a family....

“Dr. Veil?” The soft voice echoed over the intercom and through the empty office.

“Yes Minkia?” Robert snapped back to attention.

“You wished to be reminded that today...”

“Is the day that my mother and sister died. Yes, thank you.” His monotone voice covered the flood of emotion that threatened to burst fourth in a flood of tears. He held it back and kept his emotions in check. After all a leader such as himself could not show any weakness even if it was to his computer.

“The representative from Lord Recluse has landed at Victor Memorial Airport. I am dispatching a security detail to meet them.” The monotone voice of the Minkia organic AI system chimed in. Robert smiles slightly as he recalled her betrayal and the resulting capture and imprisonment as his primary computer system. A fitting prison for one who thought they could betray his will in his own country.

“Good Minkia, very good. See that they do not encounter the envoy from Longbow. I do not want to start an incident.”

“Understood.”

“Also, have flowers delivered to the family plot. Indulge yourself as to what kind. “ He smiled slightly

“Understood. I have always preferred roses.” The voice was without emotion.

“Very good. One more thing...bring the Nictus to me....”

“Understood Master.”

Smiling Robert spun his chair and took a moment to gaze out the window before him. As far as his eyes could see was a city of perfect automation. Far below his subjects scurried along the streets performing their assign tasks while robots kept the peace. His island nation was small but many saw it as an utopia. It was clean and safe from the outside wars between Statesman and Lord Recluse.

Behind him the doors opened and two Assault robots escorted a young boy to the chair near the desk. He was well dressed in a black suit that contrasted pale white skin. Around his neck a shimmering purple device seemed to pulse as the faint glow of Nictus energy glinted from his weak and broken eyes.

“Thank you Zeta units. Wait outside.” With his words the massive robots turned and left the young boy with Robert. Turning he let their eyes meet for a moment before speaking. “So my good friend, what can you tell me of the future today?”

The boy seemed lost in panic as his eyes darted around the room. Raising his own hand he inspected it as if unfamiliar with the flesh of his body. This distraction would soon be lost as Robert took out a slim remote and tapped it on the table.

“Pay attention A'taln, or do you not remember how much my quantum distortion brace hurt you last time you disobeyed me?” Robert sneered slightly as if hoping the Nictus would defy him.

“..This is wrong.” His voice shook as he again looked around the room. “Something has happened to the time stream. A flux in the primary flow.....but how...” His statement would be followed by screams of agony as Robert pressed a small button and sent shocks of energy into the tender flesh that was his prison.

“Now Now A'taln. We will have none of that talk. What I want to know is what will happen if I negotiate an alliance with Arachnos? How about Longbow? How will I profit most?

“Incoming call from Crey Industries. Kings Row Facility: It is Adam.” The soft voice of the AI echoed through the office as the sun crept below the horizon. Robert sat for a moment without a word as he thought over the fragments of information he dragged from the Nictus.

“Transfer it here Minkia.” Turning he looked at the display screen and offered a warm smile as his old friend was soon displayed. “Adam! How is Crey treating you?”

“As well as can be expected Robert.” The man responded in a friendly tone. “How is life as a big shot? Hear you got Longbow begging for a treaty.”

Robert chuckled, “Arachnos as well. It is funny how much respect Impervium armored robots will get you.”

Both men laughed for a moment before Adam continued, “Good new…”

“The bio-mass?” Robert perked up.

“Yes. It belonged to a mutant with regenerating abilities.”, Adams eyes shifted down to his notes, “One…Charley Matterson from the DNA matches”, His eyes moved back up and he smiled, “And best of all it is still viable.”

Roberts eyes wend wide, “All of it?”

“72%. Even after his death the mutant healing properties kept the bio-mass in great shape. We have already begun integrating it into a new line of Protectors.” Adam took a moment to pause and waited for the response he knew would come.

“You have to get me some…”

“Already done. We have a batch of 30 units in the cloning chambers as we speak. We paired them with some old Rikti fire tech we found in the warehouse for a little extra kick. Once we get them grown I will have the batch shipped out to you.”

“Excelent. How will they perform?” Robert sat back and folded his hands.

“They still need to be battle tested. I was hoping you could run them through the ringer and get me some performance data.”, Adam paused as Robert gave him a sour look, “Don’t worry, Crey is willing to refund any damage the Calash units cause.”

The young boy sat in the corner of his room, his gilded cage. Around him sat the toys of a child. His window has perfect view of the entire city from his own personal tower in the main building of Dr. Veil’s personal palace.

It was a pretty cage yet still a cage and it tormented the young A’taln.

Young? No, this was all wrong. Purple eyes moved to his hands and he wiggled the unfamiliar fingers for a moment and tried to recall the events that lead him to this fleshy prison.

He had been waiting in orbit as he remembered. He was looking for the perfect host that would allow the level of time manipulations that would be required for his mission. Then he found this young boy in a suburb of Paragon City. His mutant powers to bend time allowed the perfect vessel for A’taln to channel his own gifts.

Yet it all went wrong somehow. Robert Veil was never arrested as he should have. Instead he was promoted to a senior level inside Crey. Soon after Robert left the company and disappeared off of the map before surfacing as the ruler of a small island off the southern coast. When A’taln went there to try and investigate he was captured and has been trapped here ever since.

This was wrong and the Nictus knew it. He should have had a different host that would allow him to use much more of his power. Robert should have been in prison when he arrived. This island should never be the way it is.

Something had tampered with Time. Something altered history without A’taln knowing and now he was trapped. Trapped in this prison of gilded bars.

“Dr. Veil. Your father and his escorts have arrived and are in elevator 13. Arrival time estimated in 14 seconds.”

Robert took a deep breath and cleared his mind. His eyes fixed upon the window that overlooked his grand city as the soft sound of opening door was quickly followed by footsteps. Three or four sets in total counting his father who rested his weight heavily on his cane.

“Dad.”, His voice was calm, “Your security is not needed here. We have a full service Café on level twenty two.”

The old man grumbled slightly and waved his hand. With a nod of agreement the heavily armed guards returned to the elevator and left Victor with his son who had turned to greet his father with a welcoming smile.

“I am glad you finally came to visit Dad. Have a seat, can I get you anything.” Robert motioned to a chair directly facing him.

“No. No, I am quite find Robert.”, Victor moved slowly as his steel eyes moved over the oversized office of his son, “So, this is what you do now? Sit in a wood paneled office and order robots around?”

“Dad, I am hurt. I thought you would be proud of what I have done.” Robert sipped on a glass of wine.

“Proud?! Do you know what your political toying is doing? The U.N. is up at arms trying to keep the peace while meta human powered armies via for your allegiance.”, Victor sat slowly and turned to glare at his son, “All the while you sit here and play a harp while the proverbial Rome burns around you.”

“But Dad, look at what I have done.”, Robert could feel his chest tighten as he began to dive into another debate with his father, “I have created a nation where people are happy…”

“Happy because your robot army forces them to be.” Victor snapped back.

“Happy because they are safe from the meta-human wars that threaten to tear this world apart. My robot army keeps my people safe and secure.”, Robert sipped again at his drink, “Any my new Protectors will ensure that any attack against my people will fail.”

“Crey? You are in bed with Crey?” Victor growled. He had seen the intelligence so there was no surprise yet to here his son speak of it made his skin crawl.

“Crey, Malta, Even Arachnos.”

“Please tell me you are not siding with Recluse!” Victor kept his composure despite being surprise at the revelation.

“Oh yes, I am. Siding with Arachnos will secure my borders. In exchange my armies will back up Recluse and his armies during small offensives.” Robert sat back slightly and enjoyed the confusion in his fathers face.

“You can not do this! You will tip the balance of power…”

“In my favor. Dad, I asked you here because I want you at my side. I want you to be part of this.”

Victor lifted himself from his chair and laid his weight heavily upon his cane. “Son, you have gone mad. I will have no part in this.”

“Father…”, Robert smiled, “You will help me one way or another.”

“Robert!” Victor snapped, “How many times have we played chess?”

“Too many to count….Dad. However it will please you to know I have learned much during our games.”, He stood up slowly and walked around the desk, “I could never beat you for a simple reason. I was playing your game. As long as I played your game you already won.”, A dark smile crossed his lips. “Twelve minutes ago the U.N. authorized your rescue by Vanguard. Nine minutes ago they ran into resistance far outside my border. They are all dead…”

“What?!?!’ Victor looked stunned as his Son continued.

“Seven minutes ago your personal guard died at the hands of my robots. At the same time three satellites were shot down.” Robert turned his back on his father, “Four minutes ago Longbow was contacted to send in a rescue squad. They said they could not as it would break our non-aggression pact.” Robert turned again, “You see my dear Father we are no longer playing your game. We are playing my game…”

Victor stumbled back slightly in shock as Robert grinned “Check…..”

“Mate. Well played son.” He rested heavily on the oak cane as several robots entered into the office. If any fear dwelled in his heart he would not let his son have the pleasure of seeing it.

“Take him to level 32 and prep him for the mind probe.” Robert walked and faced his father, “I will have your secrets Dad…with or without your consent!”
