What to Expect
Key Components of Our Care
Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT)
MAT is central to the Hempstead program, especially for opioid and stimulant disorders:
- Suboxone (Buprenorphine) is available onsite to treat opioid use disorder.
- Methadone is also offered—but only at Suffolk County sites such as Farmingville; Hempstead provides Suboxone and medications like Sublocade and Vivitrol® for both opioid and alcohol use disorders.
- Cocaine Use Disorder MAT is also available under careful clinical supervision—a relatively rare service but one that VRP provides to meet diverse needs.
- Outpatient Detox is offered for alcohol and benzodiazepines when medically appropriate, ensuring withdrawal occurs under professional supervision rather than in unsafe isolation.
Behavioral Health & Psychiatric Services
VRP integrates multiple therapeutic modalities into one site:
- Individual Therapy and Group Therapy, including specialty groups addressing issues such as trauma, relapse prevention, or dual diagnosis.
- Behavioral Health Counseling, delivered by licensed clinical social workers (LCSWs), credentialed alcohol and substance abuse counselors (CASACs), and recovery peers.
- Onsite Psychiatric Services, including medication management by psychiatrists or psychiatric nurse practitioners to treat mental health conditions that often accompany addiction.
Every new patient receives a baseline medical and psychiatric assessment, which helps create a custom-tailored recovery plan. These services are delivered all under one roof, eliminating the need to coordinate care across multiple sites.
Wellness Services: Treating the Whole Person
VRP’s Hempstead center goes beyond addiction care with a wellness program that addresses medical conditions common among those in recovery:
- Treatments for hepatitis C, hypertension, diabetes, and screening for HIV or tuberculosis.
- Physical exams, lifestyle counseling, blood work, and medication management.
- While not a full primary care clinic, the wellness team can refer patients to specialists as needed and manage health issues that might otherwise hinder recovery.
Note: Wellness services are available only to patients actively enrolled in an addiction recovery or IOP program.
