Peer Recovery Specialists & Their Role in Recovery

At Victory Recovery Partners, our motto of “No One Left Behind” holds true every day. We recognize that the recovery process is not easy – it’s a road with many twists and turns, and bumps along the way. To best help our patients with their recovery, we offer Peer Recovery services to our patients. Our Certified Recovery Peer Advocates (CRPAs) work closely with our patients to provide both support and guidance to help them succeed and live a better, healthier and substance-free life.

CRPAs play a vital role in the recovery process. They are unique in that they have personally experienced substance use and/or addiction issues themselves. Having gone through the battles in recovery, CRPAs are able to fully relate to the patient, allowing the patient to feel understood, listened to, and accepted. As a result of this, our patients feel less alone, while building feelings of hope and strength.

Peer recovery services are not meant to replace a patient’s existing behavioral health therapy or medication-assisted treatment services. Rather, CRPAs provide an extra layer of support and guidance to help patients through their recovery.

A patient may benefit from peer recovery services if they are facing an addiction to substances such as opioids, alcohol, or cocaine. By enrolling in these services, patients can expect to experience several benefits including feeling less alone with recovery struggles, improving communication skills, learning new ways to cope with day-to-day issues, and finding ways to stay motivated and determined in recovery. All of these benefits combined are essential, as this combination will help to reduce the chances of a relapse.

Our patients have consistently found that working with a CRPA, along with their other forms of treatment, has shown to significantly and positively impact the recovery process.

Often, many patients may be facing employment struggles while in recovery. After experiencing the benefits of working with a CRPA, patients may feel inspired to become a CRPA to help others who are going through recovery. This is how new CRPAs enter the field – they experience positive results while in recovery and then feel a desire to help others. Throughout the addiction-recovery process, having a mentor is key, and our CRPAs fill that role for every patient that comes through our doors.
